Homeless Veterans Facts
Veteran's Wing:
Fort Wayne has many homeless military veterans living on the streets - right here in the City of Churches.
- 23% of the homeless population are veterans
- 47% are the Vietnam Era
- 67% have served 3 - 7 years or more
- 89% have received an Honorable Discharge
- 76% experience alcohol, drug or mental health problems
Only two forces have ever given their lives for us; Jesus Christ for our Salvation, and the American Soldier for our Freedom.
In 2007 Lonnie Cox and James Zuber decided to expand services to this community and add on a Veteran's Wing to offer long term residency to those individuals who put their lives on the line for our freedom and due to circumstances beyond their control are homeless.
When the Veterans leave the Shepherd's House they have a job, housing, a savings account, computer skills, renewed confidence and the support of their peers and mentors.
